Beach holiday at the
in the seaside resort of Grömitz
Anni, Thommy and Rosie are real aja fans and have stayed at one or two aja hotels over the last few years. After Ruhpolding and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, they’re now heading to the aja Grömitz. Join this travel-loving family on their trip to the Baltic Sea and discover just how lovely and varied a holiday at a seaside resort can be.
Amidst the sound of the waves, ‘
’ and the cries of the seagulls
The sound of the sea, sunshine and a fresh Baltic Sea breeze gently rustling past our ears. Could a break get off to a much better start? We don’t think so. Even before dinner calls, we put on our hats and jackets and head for the famous pier to soak up the last rays of sunshine of the day. Ah, Grömitz – we’re ready for plenty of vitamin sea!
Hello Spring – the wonder of nature

Right from the very first day, we noticed straight away: spring is really getting into full swing now. There are significantly more hours of sunshine, the days are getting longer, and the scent in the air is simply wonderful. With every cell in our bodies, our skin soaks up the vitamin D from the warm sun, making us feel more alert and, without realising it, happier. If it weren’t for the cool Baltic Sea breeze, we could have kicked off the T-shirt season as early as the end of April.
It really is amazing what a huge effect spring can have on us humans. Everyone is automatically in a good mood, which you can see straight away on the bustling beach promenade. The smell of fresh fish rolls wafts from every corner, and the sound of children’s cheerful shouts echoes from the playgrounds. At lunchtime, we escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the view of the pier and the Baltic Sea from the aja roof terrace with a delicious slice of cake. Life’s good like this!
Noah’s Ark Zoo:
– a wildlife experience on the Baltic Sea

For our first proper day out, we opted for a rather unusual destination on the Baltic Sea. After all, who thinks of exotic animals when they think of Grömitz? So we were quite amazed when we entered the lovingly maintained zoo, which has always been family-run. Here, you can see chimpanzees, camels, lions and other animals up close, usually from just a short distance away.
The grounds are spacious and, as well as a playground and wildlife enclosures, feature many open-sided enclosures that you’re even allowed to walk into without any problems. A real animal experience at eye level! The highlight of our visit, however, was the goat pen right by the entrance – Rosie with a bag of grains in her hand, surrounded by lots of little goats. Our little Heidi from Grömitz!
Above the clouds –
Gliding over Grömitz
The very next day, the next big event was already on the agenda: together with the Grömitz Tourist Board, we took to the skies. About a quarter of an hour’s drive from Grömitz lies the private Grube airfield, from where you can explore the surrounding area from a bird’s-eye view in a glider.
We chose sunset for our flight. In hindsight, it was a truly brilliant choice! The whole landscape glowed in various shades of orange, whilst the Baltic Sea sparkled beautifully in the evening sun. Unfortunately, the four-seater glider was in for maintenance, so we split into two flights. The experience was still unique, though!
Conclusion:
The Cherry Blossom and the Early Bird

Now there’s just one thing left for us to say: Thank you, Grömitz! Thank you for the lovely time and for your warm welcome. With your spring awakening, you’ve not only shown us just how beautiful a new beginning can be, but also that it’s worth becoming an early riser. Every morning we’d jump out of our cosy bed because we could already see from our bedroom window just how lovely the day was going to be. And if that isn’t the perfect start to the day – well, then we really don’t know what is...
